As I make my way through each week of Sacred Pregnancy by Anni Daulter I feel more and more connected to my pregnancy. This book is an amazing guide and journal for expectant mothers to use throughout their entire pregnancy.
Each week, for 40 weeks, you are provided with a topic for the week and tips that go along with that topic. In addition, at the end of each week’s chapter there is a space to journal that includes a reflection question for you to write and reflect on each week. Sacred Pregnancy becomes not only a resource but it becomes a keepsake, a place for you to track your pregnancy through journaling and where you can come back to reflect on your experiences.
When I first started reading Sacred Pregnancy I was going into my 20th week of my pregnancy and as I began to read through each week I was able to reflect on my personal experiences as they related to the topics of each week. One week that really stood out to me was Week 7: Expectations, a topic that even today at 24 weeks I am still constantly working through. I often find myself getting wrapped up in other women’s birth stories or pregnancy experiences and when this happens I return to what I learned in Week 7. I stop and take time to remember to separate my experience from others because every pregnancy is different. I remind myself to stay flexible and open to my own experience, and lastly I make sure to take time time to talk about my expectations with my husband who is biggest supporter throughout this pregnancy.
Sacred Pregnancy has become an essential resource for me throughout this pregnancy. It’s a book that I go to multiple times per week to either look for inspiration, information, tips and of course my weekly topic. I plan to continue to use this book throughout the remainder of my pregnancy and to really take time to focus and reflect on the topic of the week and what it means to me. I feel that this is one of the most beneficial books I have read throughout my entire pregnancy and I can’t wait for my girlfriends to become pregnant so I can give them their own copy.
*Interested in learning more about my experience with Sacred Pregnancy? I will be discussing the topic of week each Thursday in my Weekly Pregnancy Update over on my personal blog, RunningWithTongs, please stop in!
Sacred Pregnancy is a gorgeous four-color book especially created for mothers-to-be to reflect on the many personal milestones of the full gestation period of a pregnancy. With beautiful professional photos that correspond to each topic, Sacred Pregnancy also features a journal space for the pregnant woman to record her thoughts and feelings. Each week the mother-to-be is given information on her baby, her body, and her spirit and is asked to reflect on these via the topic of the week, which touches on a variety of issues such as sexuality, fears about labor, becoming a mother, courage, rite of passage, adornment, body image, meditation, and sisterhood to name a few. Mothers-to-be are invited to look deeply at the issues unique to their journey and find a centered, peaceful place to live their pregnancy fully. Lastly, Sacred Pregnancy includes place for the new mother to record her birth story and a large resource section on various birthing options and supports for pregnant women. Thanks for sharing. It is indeed a good way to connect to yourself and your baby. Release fear and focus more on what you want in your birth. Excellent.
