CULTURE | Walter the Farting Dog Turns 10 Years Old!

When I first began working at North Atlantic Books 3 1/2 years ago, I was amazed that this “leading publisher of alternative health, martial arts, and spiritual titles” also published Walter the Farting Dog, a classic that had come under my radar years before. As I learned more about Walter—how it spent 75 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List, was translated into numerous other languages, and was scheduled to appear on the big screen with the Jonas brothers—the story became much more than just a silly joke. Walter the Farting Dog has the amazing ability to touch the hearts of readers young and old, to teach us to accept others with all of their flaws, and to encourage reading. As Booklist aptly put it, “All in all, it’s a gas.” And now I’m excited to announce that we’ve released a limited 10th Anniversary Edition!

A little about the story:

Walter is a fine dog, except for one small problem: he has gas. He can’t help it; it’s just the way he is. Fortunately, the kids Billy and Betty love him regardless, but Father says he’s got to go! Poor Walter, he’s going to the dog pound tomorrow. And then, in the night, burglars strike. Walter has his chance to be a hero.
