Swimming to Inspiration!

I hope that wherever you are, you are able to enjoy some late summer sun. Here in Switzerland I am fortunate enough to still be experiencing lovely sunny weather, making me feel as if the summer is still here.

One of my favorite things to do at this time of year is to go swimming in the most beautiful lake up in the mountains. This is the best time of year to head up there, as the water has had the chance to warm up over the summer. My partner and I often drive up to the lake after work and go swimming as we watch the sun set. We always swim across the lake to the other side and back, which takes us around forty-five minutes. I sometimes take the time as I am swimming to reflect on what’s going on in my life.

Yesterday, I was thinking about one of my new book projects to do with space clearing and the four elements. As I swam, I was wondering whether this was really what I needed to be writing about at the present moment. As I approached the far side of the lake, I took a few moments to rest. There are some really large trees on this side of the lake, their roots stretching all the way into the water. I climbed onto one of these roots and sat thinking. As I sat there, a blackbird came and perched itself halfway down the trunk of the tree I was sitting on, and started singing.

I am still amazed at how accurately animals can turn up in our lives to bring us specific messages. In Irish and Welsh traditions, the Blackbird is closely related to the blacksmith’s god (Goibhniu and Gofannon), mainly because of its coloring being as black as a forge. The blacksmith was considered to be the master of the elements, harnessing the power of fire, air, earth and water, as he transforms ore from the earth.

As such, the Blackbird is considered to be the otherworldly smith, the master of the elements who calls to earth with its healing song. It invites us to work in the forge of our own heart and rekindle passion and purpose in our lives. Blackbird sings a song that awakens people to their hidden potential and helps them to find their true purpose in life.

I took this as an excellent sign for the writing of my new book!

My first book, Discovering Your Spirit Animal, has an index of fifty-two spirit animals where you can discover the different messages animals show us when they appear in our lives. It also describes their particular “medicine” – the gifts they bring.

This month, I wish you magical days filled with sunshine and messages from the animals.

Love and blessings,

Lucy
