Your spirit animal as protector

This month I am going to be exploring how wonderful spirit animals can be as protectors. In this role, our spirit animal gives us the strength, courage, and energy to face up to conflicts and threats. It warns us when we are in danger and often appears in dreams. We can call on our spirit animal for protection at any time.
I was walking back late one night after spending an evening at the theater, and began feeling quite apprehensive. I had a feeling that I was being followed. I remembered one of my students telling me about a similar situation she had been in. She had been walking home alone, when she suddenly became aware of someone following her. Feeling scared, she walked a little faster, but the footsteps behind her got faster too. They were almost catching up with her, when she called on her spirit animal in her mind. Just at that moment, the guy who had been following her walked straight into a lamppost and fell over! The fall made him drop the knife he had been carrying. My student immediately ran away to safety. Invoking my own spirit animal in my mind, I felt a lot safer, and my journey home passed without incident.
Sometimes our spirit animal can show up in the role of protector in the most unexpected way – even if we have never met them before. Here are two more stories that have been shared with me by my students:
One of my students always calls his coyote to protect him before going to sleep. One night he was awoken by the coyote growling in his dream. At that moment, he heard a window break downstairs and turned on the light. The would-be burglars ran off immediately, and my student thanked his coyote for having roused him.
Another of my students had never met her spirit animal before. She took my introductory course in space clearing and was so enthusiastic upon leaving the course that she space cleared her home the following day. When she was announcing her intention to perform the space clearing she had an image of a large black cat, or possibly a panther, which presented itself to her. As she lit candles that evening in her home, she thought she could hear a low purr. She thought it was a little strange, but rather than think anymore about it, she put it down to her imagination and the fact that she was fond of cats in general.
That night, she dreamed she was woken up by a large black panther. She sat up in bed and heard noises downstairs in her living room. She was so scared that she didn’t dare go downstairs, but called a neighbor to come over. When the neighbor arrived, they both walked into the living room together. There had obviously been a break-in; the window had been broken and there was glass littered all over the carpet. There was also a small statue that was missing from the fireplace. However, nothing else had been touched. It was as if the burglars had walked in and immediately left—as though something had scared them.
The most surprising thing of all was that sitting in the middle of the broken glass on the carpet was a large black cat. The cat had no ID tag, and despite ads being placed in a number of local shops and newspapers, no one claimed it. To this day, she is sure that the burglars left because of the cat—which she adopted herself. She is now certain that her spirit animal is a cat.
To find out more about your spirit animal and the special ways it can protect you, read my book Discovering Your Spirit Animal. I have included an index of 52 spirit animals so you can discover the special form of protection that your particular spirit animal brings you. This month, remember to call on your spirit animal whenever you feel the need for protection.
Love and blessings,
Lucy
